I began my running journey several months ago with a post at Once A Month Mom. To see the original quest click on the link.
I am encouraged and not ashamed to say that even though it has been a journey, sometimes a journey up hill it seems, that I am getting closer and closer to running my first 5k. Hopefully with some accountability from a good friend, Deanna, we will be running our first in September {fingers crossed}.
Today I ran with both boys, which is still a new experience for me so I didn’t have too high of expectations. I really just wanted to run a mile without stopping (remember with both boys I am hauling an extra 60 pounds of weight), so a mile was a great goal in my mind.
Evan was super excited to “run with mommy” the first time, not too much this time around, even though once we got out of the house, he enjoyed the ride.
He was quite concerned for my safety, though, the whole time I was running. Not sure if he thought I was dying due to the grunts and groans I was making or he truly just is being protective of me. And since he is into talking lately, he had to know what everything was as we passed it, which didn’t help me out in the talking while trying to breathe, while trying to run scenario.
We pushed through it though and by the time I was done with the mile, Evan was asking for me to stop running and walk the rest of the time. Which I respected his wishes and walked the rest of the way home. WOW! What a workout.
I find it quite hilairious how when pushing children in a jogging stroller that they think it is self propelled. This then leads to them being super inquisitive as mentioned above. They do not understand the effort and exertion given to push their tiny little bodies. But I do have to say that by them sparking up a conversation with you, you can exam how well you are doing with your breathing and conditioning. Experts say that if you can carry on a conversation while running a moderate pace you are on the right track. So look at it as an opportunity to guage where you are at. Keep at it girl. Soon you will be running not only 5k’s but also half and full marathons. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
You are doing awesome girl! I was ready to start it back up and it is great to have you right by my side. Honestly, I bet you could do the 5k right now and then it’s all down hill after that, it gets pretty addicting. But I will not allow myself to do all that long distance EVER again! I would still like to have my knees intact when I turn forty!
Love ya girl, GREAT POST.
