Evan’s First Soccer Practice – Wordless Wednesday
So proud of my little man!! He did amazing. He listened intently to what Coach Ken instructed. Tried everything that was asked of him. And after practice said he LOVED it and enjoyed himself! YAY!
Wordful Wednesday – Carter Again
Yep, Carter get’s the spotlight, again. I can do that? Right? After all with Evan being the oldest, he has 18 months of photos of just him before Carter came along.
I just love swimming pics. The sun, the clear water, the giddiness – just makes for some great pics! So here is another one.

Line Em’ Up – A Commonality
Today, I had a few moments of quiet time with Carter while Evan was still sleeping. We played quietly in his room. He pull out some vehicles from a toy box and began to line them up.

He started with his tractor! Then following the tractor was his semi truck then his fire truck. He was being very meticulous during the whole process and not saying a word.

Then one by one he would move them to another part of the play area and again line then back up, not necessarily in the same order.

What’s the big deal, you ask? Although the activity in itself isn’t mind boggling, what is?? Well let me tell you.
IT IS THE VERY FIRST THING BOTH BOYS HAVE IN COMMON!! I am pulling at strings here, I admit
! Yes, I needed to put that in all caps, because my 2 boys have NOTHING in common. They don’t look anything alike, they don’t act anything like, they don’t have any of the same interests (during the same ages), they don’t play the same way, they don’t like the same toys, NOTHING. Until now. Although I have to admit, Evan was a little bit more OCD about his vehicles where he would line all of them up, EVERY morning. For about a month!! We would put them away in his stool every evening, and the very first thing he would do in the morning would be to run out and get his vehicles and line them up. So today, I got to walk down memory lane a little bit.

Dear Morning Cup of Coffee,
I love you so! You know how I long for you every morning: steaming hot Starbucks french roast extra dark with french vanilla creamer. We have had a very long and enjoyable relationship. I miss you! Ever since those kids came into the picture, I have been left with a half drank cup of goodness and find myself returning to the microwave to reheat often. If only those kids just didn’t need me when they see me drinking your liquid heavenliness! Maybe one day soon, we will reconnect for a full cup every morning, like the good ol’ days, until then know that I think of you often.
xoxo,
Cortney

Brothers
Just a reminder that I am giving away a Dick’s Sporting Goods $50 Gift Card! Come get entered to win!
Every once in awhile, they act like they truly love each other. Believe it or not, Evan was walking with his arm around Carter, making sure Carter was okay. This was the very last glimpse of that moment. Yes, the moment only lasted as long as it took for me to get the camera ready and focused!!
Besides I just love the photo!

Important Teachings from Dad
You know they’re are some very important things that a Dad teaches his sons. One of which is how to properly dunk an Oreo Cookie! Evan believes that you may NOT eat Oreos unless you have milk to accompany them. And Carter has decided since Evan sits on dad’s lap to enjoy these sweet delights that he should be able too also.
So the challenges of fatherhood: teetering 2 boys on your lap while trying to enjoy your own Oreo, and sharing one glass of milk.

Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better
We had a great time at a birthday party this weekend. Evan and Carter’s friend Olivia had us all over to the Y and let me tell you – it was AWESOME. There was a huge play room – think McD’s times 5 and a large mat (padded) room. And unlike someone else’s party – cough cough - there weren’t a bizillion wild children running around. Just our 20 or so kids running crazily into each other! And enough room for us parents to sit back and watch the mayhem.
As I have mentioned in previous posts, Carter is my dare devil. My risk taker. So of course if the “big boys” are doing it, he should be able too also. Of course he wanted to go into the large play area but there were a few spots that he could have hurt himself on, so guess what that means? I got to hang with the kids inside the tunnels – woot! My knees are still sore. I eventually passed on the honor to Jeremy, so he could enjoy himself too
!
There was a pretty impressive slide that came from the top of the structure. And of course when Carter saw the “big boys” doing it, he had one thing and only one thing on his mind!

The Only Good Thing About 14 Inches of Snow (Wordful Wednesday)
Our area got hit hard with snow the last few days. The first round of snow came while I was at BlissDom and I really thought I was going to be lucky and not have to deal with it. I got home and one of our neighbors had cleared our driveway and sidewalk. It was a beautiful thing. But since I rarely watch the news any more I didn’t realize that another band was coming. We got hit again yesterday. I really hate being a prisoner in my own home with 2 crazy kids who NEED to get out of the house.
Thank God for Daddy! I am not really sure how much snow we ended up getting but our backyard had around 14 inches – but some of that was probably due to wind and snow drifts!
Jeremy couldn’t wait to go build a fort with the boys, here is the path he dug out to get to the tree.
I DID NOT go outside! I was in no mood to get cold and wet. So the rest of the pictures were taken from out our back window with the zoom in all the way! Ha!
This last picture is my favorite, because Carter wasn’t that happy to be out in the middle of the snow – since it did come up to his waist. But he saw me in the window with my camera and yelled “CHEESE”. Yep a tell tale sign that the kid is a blogger’s son
!

My future comedian…perhaps? Feeling One with Bob Hope!
We went to the National Air Force Museum last weekend and besides pointing out EVERY star on EVERY plane (yeah, you know, every US Air Force plane has the star logo on it, and there were hundreds of planes), Carter was enthralled with this exhibit on Bob Hope. He just stood there staring at him for probably 15 minutes and fussed when we left the exhibit, as if he felt one with him. As if he made a real connection with him
Because really, I think he might be the next Bob Hope
and I think Carter felt it too!

Wordful Wednesday – Labor of Love Pt.2
Don’t fret, if you notice I’m a little absent this week from the land of technology (I truly appreciate those of you that email me to make sure I’m okay since you don’t see me on Twitter or Facebook). It is Evan’s birthday this weekend and I have already started the preparations for his cake – besides having a cake class Wednesday night.
The reason of my early, frantic start at the beginning of the week?: previous said class on Wednesday night, a (long over due) doctor’s appointment Thursday night, another kid’s birthday party Friday night! Besides, you know, my other job of making sure 2 little sets of hands don’t get into the cakes during the day!
Uckk, I can only stand smelling cake and icing for so long! Here are my stats so far:
- 4 cakes baked (2 more to go)
- iced class cake (waiting on the other 2 cakes to stack on the chocolate ones before icing and fondant)
- 4 batches of fondant
- buttercream icing mixed

Date Night
Since I am ALWAYS the one taking pictures of the boys, and there is NEVER any photos of me, thought I would post a picture from date night this week. I am not vain, but since I DID have makeup on, which is a rarity the past few weeks, and I think the picture turned out well, I would use it for my Wordless Wednesday post! (And write some run-on sentences in the process.)
It was a special evening with the Dayton Philharmonic sponsored by FORGE (Jeremy is a founding partner). And we were without the boys all evening. Had a great time meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones! Thanks Forge and the DPO for the great evening!
So now you may “oooh and awww” in my comments section

When All Else Fails…
What happens when you have two boys under 3, weather that hasn’t been over 20 degrees for weeks and an antsy boy who wants to play soccer? You improvise…in a too-small galley kitchen…and pray that nothing breaks!

SNOW BALL FIGHT!!!!!
Since my boys were sick when we had our first snow of the season, we had an impromptu snow ball fight a few nights ago for the season’s second snow! We were coming home from Target, Jeremy and Evan just couldn’t resist. And of course Carter loved it also!

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It’s off to the Park We Go…
If only God would give us one nice day a week during the winter I think I wouldn’t go out of my mind. We finally had a “warmer” day this week and it didn’t rain {woot woot!} so of course when I did my weekly check of the weather over the weekend, my heart skipped a beat to think me and the boys would actually get to run around outside!!

I Only Birthed Both of You, so You Better Give Me One Smile…
Today’s quest of trying to get a decent Christmas photo of the boys can be summed up with this:
After giving up on Carter, since he doesn’t understand bribery yet, I even went as low as to tell Evan, “We WILL NOT go play with the trains at the book store UNLESS you GIVE me A NICE SINCERE smile! Yeah, one of my “Mother of the Year Moments”!
Oh and the funny thing is…I didn’t really even notice that horrendously large pillow until I got home and was looking at the photos. So I guess I am semi-happy that none of them turned out too nice

Murphy’s Law – Wordless (Wordful) Wednesday
Okay, so I am just going to have to give just a very brief explanation so that you can get the full effect.
- Both kids are sick
- Had Doctors appointment rescheduled so that it wouldn’t fall in the middle of Nap Time.
- Gave ourselves an extra hour just to make sure the appointment wouldn’t fall during nap time.
- The boys RARELY sleep past 2:30!
- What I found exactly at the time we had to leave – FIGURES!!

Moments of Sheer Bliss
Evan is not a risk taker. He is very calculated. Anything that looks remotely unstable he will not attempt. But after months and months of trying to convince him that these silly Blow-Up Bouncers were indeed “fun”, he took the plunge! Notice, there are no other kids in there…probably the reason he agreed!
