What happens when twitter obsessed bloggers host a baby shower…
You may already know, my friend Jenny is having a baby. Crazy to think, little Jonah will be here in 30 days!! Can’t wait to meet the little guy and of course get my baby fix too
!
So when my friend Emily (Jenny’s cousin and the cohort at Momminitup) and I were trying to figure out what the theme of the shower would be, Emily had a BRILLIANT idea to have the party food revolve around Jenny’s tweets. Let’s face it, Jenny has been tweeting A LOT about food this pregnancy – HA! She gave us plenty of ammo to work with. Here are just a few of the tweets we used:
We had all of the above items at her shower along with the appropriate tweet hung beside it:
So the predicament I was in, how could I make a cake yet include some of her cravings. So after racking my brain and sending a couple of ranting frantic emails to Emily, I came up with brilliant idea – not that I am tooting my own horn
!
It began with the idea of implanting ho-hos into the cake somehow. I wanted the dessert display have some coherence. I also wanted to incorporate another of Jenny’s favorites – Lulees Lollies. Our talented friend Luanne came up with the idea of favors so that each guest could take a “little Jonah home”.
I came up with the idea of using a cupcake tree. One layer having a traditional cake, one layer made of ho-hos, and one layer with cupcakes with ice cream and Hershey syrup on the side. I liked the idea of using the browns of ho-hos and a blue considering that is what colors Jeremy used for the invites.
I headed to the craft store to find some inspiration…in ribbons. I needed a ribbon to tie the ho-hos together. I found some cute ribbon that was dark brown (ho-hos) and big blue circles. Score! I also found some other cute ribbon that incorporated dark brown, light brown and blue that I thought would be cute around each tier of the cup cake tree.
After thinking about the top tier cake, I realized that I could incorporate Jenny’s favorite coffee drink – a Mocha. So I found a mocha butter cream recipe that I thought would pair perfectly with chocolate almond cake. The circles from the ribbon inspired the circles on the cake.
I chose peanut butter butter cream for the chocolate cupcakes because who doesn’t like chocolate and peanut butter together. And the light brown matched perfectly with the ribbon that I purchased. I added blue fondant circles with “J” for Jonah.
And with that, the “cake” evolved! Here is the outcome. I kinda like it
