How I Spent Mother’s Day 2010

I didn’t do a Mother’s Day post – I am not really into doing those types of posts. But for posterity sake, I am doing a small recap because I got some GREAT pics of my boys on a Mother’s Day outing.

My morning started off with breakfast in bed and presents. And let me just tell you, I got my first “handmade” present from Evan, that he worked on with his preschool teacher, Miss Margaret. Oh my word – it brought tears to my eyes.

Then we kinda bummed around for awhile – both kids have been battling illness with fevers, so we didn’t really want to take them out around people. So we decided to go to a local nature preserve and play for a little while.

Since I couldn’t get a picture with both boys at the same time, I will be happy with 2 separate pics that turned out pretty well! I’ll take ‘em since neither kid will sit still for any amount of time – ha!

My precious boy, who made me a “mom”.

My boy, who reminds me daily that life should be enjoyed and that laughing should be the norm!

Weekly Winners – April 25

weekly-winners-button

Got to spend some alone time with my C-man this week. Here are a few things we enjoyed doing!

Jeremy and I bought bikes and a trailer. It has become our new enjoyable past-time, except when you get lost, down hill and home is up-hill, and an axel that breaks. But that’s another post for another day this week :-) !

Our “regal” (or so he thinks) Victor, warming himself in the sun!

Springtime has arrived!

A “Girls Night Out” at one of my favorite places: The Melting Pot (a picture from an earlier post this week on what happens when you get a lot of bloggers together with great food and atmosphere!)

Surprisingly enough, I haven’t brought my camera out too much this past week, even though it has been absolutely gorgeous outside. But that’s the problem, it has been so beautiful that the boys and I have just been enjoying it. We have played and played and played. Trying to soak up and catch up on that vitamin D we have missed so much this winter :-) . We have had long days of heading to the parks, having picnics, playing baseball and golf all without me bringing my camera. I did manage to get some of shots of the kids this week, but that is all, nothing else. But then again, I didn’t have much time for anything else :-) .

carter and the egg

Carter, upon asking for the blue egg, cracked it on the table deliberately – ha – lil’ stinker. And of course he didn’t want to taste the egg, just wanted to take the shell off.

evan_lounging

Evan, my son who refuses to smile for me, EVER, asked me to take this picture and a couple other ones. I don’t know what came over him. I guess he knew it was about time to give his mama a smile.

light reading

After noticing no sounds coming from the living room – moms you know that can only mean one thing…they are doing something they shouldn’t be – I peaked into the living room to see this. I literally tip-toed back to the kitchen and grabbed my camera.

evan rockMy son who will not take ANY chances, decided that this day he would climb this rock. I spotted him of course, but he did the rest. I quickly asked to take his picture, he agreed but said “make it quit, I scared.”

What can I say about this shot! My beautiful little boy!

Weekly Winners – February 14

What a crazy week of weather. It snowed not once but twice and at the end of it we had approximately 12 inces of snow – but of course I’m not complaining considering what DC got! The weird thing about this snow that made it a little different then the snows we usually get is that it clung to everything causing branches, bushes, whole trees to droop under the weight of the snow. Here is my Magnolia tree. It’s lowest limbs are usually taller than I am. I’m 5′8″.

bent treeThis picture was taken when the morning sun comes over the house and I loved the way the sun highlighted the snow against the blue sky, contrasting with the shadows of the house.

snowing backyard

And of course you can’t forget the icecycles that formed. We did an experiment with a few on the porch and didn’t break them off. Evan and I wanted to see how large they would actually get. Surprisingly one made it to the ground – about 9 feet total. WOW! But I didn’t get a picture of it that did it justice. But again, the beauty of the morning sun caught my attention.

icecycles

We had a “warm” day last week – 36 degrees before the snow hit. So I bundled the boys up and took them to the park.

I love this picture because Carter is constantly trying to catch up with his big brother!

We have a wonderful opportunity to live near the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, so we headed there this week while Jeremy was off work. Carter was in awe since he is slightly obsessed with Air Planes, and Evan just wanted to get in the cock pits :-) ! Here are a few pics from this field trip…

Wow! This week flew by! I don’t think I actually had one down moment between watching the boys, my self inflicted boot camp, and working on a birthday cake for my first “real” client! Yeah, a little irony since I took ALL sugary desserts out of my diet, yet had to focus on cakes ALL week!! Needless to say the camera was aimed more at food than anything else this week :-) !!

ornament

Last week I took a picture of this ornament during the day, and this week I got a chance to capture it at nighttime.

winter weather morning

This picture doesn’t do the actual scene justice, but I tried. One morning this week the winter snow clouds were rolling in just as the morning sun was peeking over the horizon. It was a gorgeous site to see out my bathroom window!

muffins

As I said early, I am on a quest to lose 15 pounds that I have packed on in the last few months, so this week was Boot Camp week 1. This was a new recipe I tried – Whole Wheat Zucchini Muffins. MWAH-ha-ha {evil laugh} the kids have no idea these are good for them!!

And of course, what Weekly Winners post would be complete without a couple of shots of the kids (well just kid this week :-) )

Not that I am complaining again this week, but we ALL have been sick AGAIN, 3 weeks in a row. So of course, the last nice week of the season and we are stuck inside! Okay maybe a little bit of complaining. Which means I didn’t really get to get out and take pictures, which I am really starting to miss. But I digress :-)

The CHRISTmas Season Has Begun!

my perfect gifts

Looking forward to sharing this Christmas Season with my boys!

My parents have neighbors that always have a huge display of lights on top of their house. Evan remembers it from last year and all this week he has been asking when the lights will be on…I assured him that the light display would begin on  Thanksgiving night. When the lights of Santa, the Christmas Train and some angels came on Thanksgiving night, the boys were ecstatic! Their eyes were like saucers. Carter literally kept returning to the sliding door to sneak peaks every couple of minutes.

But after a moment of enjoyment, Evan looked at me and said “Where is Jesus? Shouldn’t He be up there instead of Santa Clause?”

That’s my boy!

With another week of illnesses over with, there wasn’t a lot of photo taking moments. But I was able to capture some great pics of Carter! Sorry Evan, once again you did not want to be photographed. Besides being sick in the beginning of the week, the rest of the week was working on a very special cake for a very special girl, so not to fill up a whole Weekly Winners post of just cake pictures, I gave the cake its’ own post. Come check it out!

Again this week, getting the boys out as much as possible before the weather turns too cold! The leaves are pretty much off the trees but the skies are still crystal blue and the temps are in the 50’s! We’ve been to farms, nature reserves and Grandpa’s sand box. And I threw in a couple of Halloween pics since I didn’t do a Halloween post.

Finally got my new camera, a Canon PowerShot G11. Still trying to figure it out but refuse to read the manual. So it may take a while :-) ! All the pics below were taken with my new G11.

Evan is not a risk taker. He is very calculated. Anything that looks remotely unstable he will not attempt. But after months and months of trying to convince him that these silly Blow-Up Bouncers were indeed “fun”, he took the plunge! Notice, there are no other kids in there…probably the reason he agreed!
