Amusement Park Junkies

On our vacation, we visited Hershey Park! Jeremy and I didn’t know what to expect. Honestly, we feared that we would pay the boatload of money to enter the park and in an hour or so, leave with two extremely crabby kids.
Oh were we so wrong!!!
Let me just say: 11 HOURS!
Yes my friends, that is how long we stayed in the park, 11 HOURS!!!
And for the most part, all 11 hours were pleasant. The kids had a blast.
Hershey Park was wonderful! Enough activities for the little ones, a lot of trees and places to rest up and the weather was perfect!

Jeremy and I don’t “do” rides. Neither one of us enjoy amusement parks. The merri-go-round is about the extent of what either one of us will try. But we want to at least allow our kids to experience all things amusement without any bias from us and let them make their own decision about doing stupid things like roller coasters.

Apparently they didn’t get the memo that amusement park rides are stupid because Evan and Carter rode EVERY possible ride they could. We were a little hesitant to allow Carter to participate but he wanted to soooo badly. So we went for it and after the initial ride, a ride junkie was born!

I just can’t believe we were there for 11 hours! Jeremy and I were worn out but the boys were still wanting to ride rides even in the dark. We had to pull them out of the park where they immediately fell asleep once in the truck! It was a wonderful start to our vacation! And a place we will have to visit again! The boys will make sure of it!

Don’t know what we are going to do in a few years when the boys actually want to ride the “real” roller coasters! Aghhh! But we will enjoy the “baby” rides for a couple more years!

Thanks Hershey for amazing day!!!

Wordful Wednesday – Carter Again

Yep, Carter get’s the spotlight, again. I can do that? Right? After all with Evan being the oldest, he has 18 months of photos of just him before Carter came along.

I just love swimming pics. The sun, the clear water, the giddiness – just makes for some great pics! So here is another one.

Summer’s For Tomato Pickin’

I have some strange boys, in the fact that they LOVE tomatoes! Especially cherry tomatoes. They will eat the whole carton in one sitting if I let them.

Last year, my dad planted tomatoes in his garden, and it was a huge hit. Evan would just help himself, while out playing. We would catch him, amongst the plants, pulling off ripe tomatoes (and sometimes not so ripe ones – ewww!). And even started to find, large tomatoes still on the vine with huge bite marks in them!

So again this year, my dad planted tomato plants. This year’s crop has been out of control. I have never seen tomato clusters on the vines like grapes. Fortunately for Evan, it is a tomato lovers paradise!

I love when the boys come in from playing, with red juice and a dribble of seeds down the front of their clothes. I just know now to either put them in white tees that can be bleached or t-shirts that are for tomato eating only – ha!

So if you have a garden, do you let the kiddos raid it?

The prize at the End of the Tunnel

Jeremy drags takes me to a local festival every year…which I loathe. Because it usually ends up to be the hottest day of the summer, huge crowds and a LONG line of vintage cars that you can not get closer than 2 feet too. Let’s just say, it’s not my cup of tea.

But it was something that he and his family did growing up and now I have gotten to do for the last 10 years of my life.

This weekend was no different. 90 degree weather, high humidity, sunny with no clouds, and huge crowds.

The parade was fun. A nice man who lived right on the street that the parade went through, let us have some of his seats right on the road under a shade tree. The boys really did enjoy it!!

But of course, after the parade, we headed to the festival. It was wall-to-wall people. No joke! It was 90 degrees and arms were touching other people’s arms. Gross!! But we wanted to have some lunch, go see the cars and then get home. We had a mission.

We did enjoy some yummy fair food – Jeremy’s favorite and a meal he thinks about the other 364 days of the year – jambalaya. I got a grilled chicken wrap and the boys got burgers and fries. We drank 6 bottles of water!!

We then trekked on down to the cars. A large sign (which I didn’t get a picture of darn it) said “NO strollers within 2 feet of the cars!”. We had 2 strollers – ha! So we walked briefly though the cars section. And unfortuanately for Jeremy – the kids weren’t too impressed. Of course at the end of the festival there were police cars blocking the road with their lights running, so the boys did enjoy seeing those up close.

So, what’s the point of this long gripe of a post, you are probably asking yourself?

The ONE thing that keeps me coming back every year??

Funnel cakes!!

Yummy to the yum! But of course I did have to share with the boys- geeze. Get your own kids!

VIP Day at 5/3 Field

A friend of mine, Jenny (a talented photographer by the way – go check out her blog), was able to score some tickets for the fam today to head down to Fifth-Third Field for a VIP day for the kiddos. Let me just say, that the kids had a BLAST! There was something for each boy to do, because of course, they EACH wanted to do something DIFFERENT!

Evan’s favorite thing was running around the bases and trying his hand at pitching and hitting a floating ball.

Kaden loved the large inflatable bounce houses.

And Carter just wanted to find Heater and Gem the whole time. He continuously informed me when he saw them. He would point and start laughing. Evan just this summer decided that those two dragons aren’t so big and bad. Carter was immediately smitten!

Side note – Let me just say for the record – that Fifth Third Field is such great facility and the people who work there are always super nice. Over the years we have attended so many family events there and have never been disappointed. What a awesome addition to a city that needed it!!

Anyway back to our day – ha! Carter had sandals on and he DID NOT like the sand/dirt that outlines the bases. He refused to run the bases because rocks were getting in his sandals. And of course that just set the mood for him since that was the first thing we did. But he eventually realized that the field grass was super soft.

We even got a quick personal tour of the behind-the-scenes. Chad did a great job showing us around. As part of the VIP day, there was a 40 minute tour. But when my MIL explained to Chad that we had 3 small fans, he immediately volunteered to give us the “quick” tour. Thank you, Chad!!

And with complimentary popcorn, soda and cupcakes, that just made our morning complete!

Thanks CW Dayton, the Dayton Dragons and Fifth Third Field!!

More Summer Fun

I finally broke down and took the camera to the pool this week and hoped that I wouldn’t jinx myself and drop it in the pool! I didn’t…yet! I got a couple of cute shots, but nothing with the boys playing together. Believe it or not, the boys do a great job playing with each other. You’ll just have to take my word on it!

Evan has had a blast hanging out with his cousin Kaden and Aunt Beth, while they are visiting.

Funny side note: a mom came over to me at the pool and asked how old Carter was. I told her and she said, “Awww, he is so itty bitty for his age!”. What? Don’t know what planet you live on. But adjectives that usually describe Carter aren’t usually “Itty Bitty” but rather “Ham hock”, “Chunk” or “Chubs”! (oh yeah and the fact that Carter is in the 90th percentile in height and weight)

Jeremy took the boys to the hobby shop to pick up some rubberband airplanes – you know for the boys to play with :-) .

And of course the weekly trip to the a local outdoor shopping center to play in the fountains. Carter would rather just splash in the puddles.

M.I.A. June 2010

You may have noticed I haven’t been around much lately!

The lazy days of summer have definitely kicked in. Sorta! Seriously, can you have lazy days when you have two boys 3 and under. I think not. So what I meant to say is the crazy days of summer have really kicked in. And I have just been lazy about blogging.

Because of our wonderful Ohio weather, the last few weeks you can have one minute of rain, then the next minute it is perfectly sunny. So when we head out to the pool or the park, I don’t dare take the good camera with us. And our “cheapie” broke, so not many pics of the summer excitement going on. And I kinda have a thing about my posts having pictures in them. If I don’t have pics, I don’t do any writing. So I have opted for just enjoying my kiddos and putting the ol’ blog on the back burner recently.

I can do that, right?

So here’s a little bit of what we have been up to and my excuses for not keeping up with the blog:

  • The pool!! I LOVE the pool! It’s the best man made activity around for two crazy boys who need to run/swim off some energy! I am hoping to get some pics up soon. Because there have been so many times that I thought to myself “that would have been an awesome picture!” Both boys dearly love going to the pool. Jenny thinks Carter will be swimming on his own by the end of June – ha! He is a natural – for sure!
  • We have visited every park in a 15 miles radius! Splash pads, jungle gyms, tennis and basketball courts!!
  • We stay up late to catch fireflies!!
  • We have eaten!! ICE CREAM!! And yes, these pics are from Carter eating his in his car seat – no I wasn’t stressing at all about the mess- HA!
  • Flagged down the Ice Cream Man!
  • We have played at the Grandparents’ Houses!
  • We have played in the rain!

But isn’t that what summer should be about? No schedules, no worries, just play and enjoy ourselves. Well at least that is what I keep telling myself. We are building memories! And definitely enjoying ourselves as we do it!

What are guys doing to enjoy the summer?
