Where Ideas Take Shape…

balls

This is a cake post :-) . If you are new to my site, Welcome!! Come check out my Cake Endeavors!

I have the honor of making a cake for a special little girl! My wonderful friend Jenny asked me (I volunteered) to do Sophie’s birthday cake and if you follow Jenny over at Mommin’ It Up she is a little neurotic when it comes to making her kids birthday cakes (here are a few good laughs here and here). So for her to allow me to do her cake is amazing. {NO PRESSURE!!}

The theme is Word World! Okay! I can do something Word World – maybe. I spent a couple of days brainstorming what I could do when I got an email from Jenny.  Sidenote: Jenny hates when I am stressed out! She will pet my hair and encourage me to stay relaxed (What? too much info. I guess that will be a post for another day!).  Let me quote a piece of the email:

“I found this pic on a blog.  Way over the top with all the characters but I like how she did the “cake” part!
http://www.halderman.net/cakeblog/2008/08/01/word-world/
I am just worried you will stress yourself out over this which I do *not* want you to do!!  Just do whatever is easiest and Word World-like!!”

Just to give you a preview of that link above here is a pic  from it:

Again, NO PRESSURE! Geeze, she knows that I am a perfectionist. Then I see this tweet:

Picture 1Okay, seriously, NO PRESSURE!!

I have tried fondant one other time {cough, cough for Jenny’s birthday – FAIL}

Enough history! This week I did a practice run (Sophie’s birthday party is next Saturday).

I made my own Marshmallow Fondant and it came out on the first try! Okay, so one step down. The next step, putting the fondant on the cake – which is where I screwed up last time – so this was a biggie for me! Drum roll…..

The trumpets sounded and the clouds opened up. Okay fine, it wasn’t that dramatic but close to it :-) !

All right! Another step down. Now on to decorating it! I decided I would surprise the guys over at Forge and put their logo on it! Which, hello, very gutsy since Jeremy designed the logo and he can be a little anal about his logos being exactly right :-) (love you babe!)

Okay, Okay so without further ado:

forgelogoI think it turned out pretty well! Now on to the real cake! Can’t wait to show you how Miss Sophie’s cake comes out. Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed! And check out more photos below of the official first Forge cake! Click [View with PicLens]

  1. ok, YOU are freaking amazing! And seriously, NO PRESSURE!!! Remember whatever you do will be 16 million times better than what I can do. Oh, and also, I don’t want to have to spend Sophie’s entire party petting your hair…even though I DO love petting your hair…but not during my kids birthday party…should I stop talking now?

    SO GOOD. I’m sure Jeremy approves wholeheartedly of the… signage? :)

    I reccommend that you make another one of these soon!!! You obviously got the hang of it, and I’ve seen some absolutely stunning fondant creations… (http://www.sugarcoatitstudio.com/) …and if you need some practice, I totally know a guy who would eat your practice-pieces.

    that guy is me

    Thanks Andy! That site you gave is so cool. I am no where near that yet but gives me some great ideas to try.
    Maybe I will sneak my next practice cake your way – you know on the DL since the Forge guys are getting used to being my “cake testers” : )

  5. Jen says:

    That is seriously awesome! Why oh why did I have to be in school when you are taking cake classes? I really want to do that too, but now I’m a little intimidated.

  6. cortney says:

    I am taking another beginner class in January in you want to join me : ).

  7. That cake is amazing! What were you thinking being a teacher? You should have been a cake artist. Seriously. Can’t wait to see Sophie’s cake, I am sure it will be awesome!
