Okay, so I am one of those moms who get really emotional when the boys hit any type of milestone, big or small. Case in point, I cry for all the biggies (first words, rolling over, crawling, walking etc.), but I also find my self crying over the little things too (walking down the stairs for the first time without my hand, or figuring out how to open a door, or being tall enough to look out the window without asking to be picked up).
Each one of these little milestones reminds me that the time I have with these little ones is fleeting and before I know it, they will be young men. And as much as I look forward to witness the men they become, my heart aches of the babies that they no longer are.
Since Carter is my baby, I am having a harder time with this because I know I won’t witness these things again in my household. I have written posts about this before (click HERE to see one of them). And since there was a concern about him crawling late, and possibly walking late, I have held my breath anxiously for those moments. Even though the scare of it all is over (HERE and HERE too if you want to read a little more), I do think about those days and wonder if this is God’s way of telling me to slow down and enjoy the moments that I do have with Carter. He doesn’t need to grow up too quickly, he doesn’t need to follow in the exact footsteps of his brother. And although, some times I wish he would just walk already because it would be easier on me, I am reminded that I will miss the days of watching him speed crawl through out the house.
He began taking steps a couple of weeks ago. Actually he took his first true step toward my good friend Jenn. After that he would take a step here or there, but not motivated to do any more. Actually, the opposite happened. We made such a big deal over it, he down right refused to do it. HMMM I DO NOT know where he gets that stubbornness from! I don’t know if I like this passive aggresive attitude he has towards these things
. No joke, he would wait until I wasn’t looking and walk across the room. Last week, I went in to get something from Evan’s room and came back into the living room to witness his walk across the room and once he saw me he sat down.
So getting his first steps on film has been very difficult. But I finally got it! It only took some bribery of his favorite thing right now – pumpkins. Again, I am not above bribery with my boys
. So enjoy- everyone loves watching first steps!
‘awww, thanks carter : ) it means more than you’ll ever know. i’m so glad to be in your life, now…when you come to ms. jen asking about about girls, I might have to say “maybe you should talk to your mommy”‘ GOOD JOB little man!
That is so cool! He’s a fantastic walker! The fact that he walks when you’re not around is kind of comical though.
Your words about slowing down and enjoy the moment are spot on. I need that reminder daily!
